Disconnected Thinking
Posted On 05/11/2008 03:15:02 by Yarculdragonlord
Just got back onto this site from a long absence, I was busy finishing my book and starting a new job.  Have been following the political winds across the US only to find myself uncertain as to who I will vote for in the Oregon Primaries for the Democratic nominee.  I was a great Obama supporter until recently.  I find, after hearing him speak at UO twice now, that I am uncomfortable ith him.  I feel like his campaign has become far too much like a Pentacostal Church revival, and I am uncomfortable with that.  I am uncoomfortable with the fact that many of his supporters have the attitude of newly converted Christians rath than more rational thinkers.  At least I know that Hillary is a politico and can debate with her supporter on the finer points of policy promises.  Obama supporters seem no long able to look objectively at the race.

I am in total agreement with you....I love listening to Obama, but you are right he's coming across like a revivalist preacher, not a politician....Also I just don't think the US is ready to vote for a black man for President...I think we are still fighting the Civil War in a lot of areas of this country.  The Republicans will drag out a lot of ammunition to sink Obama's campaign...stuff we have no idea about right now.  With Clinton, there are no surprises...and what can the Republicans drag out about her or Bill that we haven't seen already....I want her to be the Dem nominee, but I am not sure how she can do that.

I am not sure about the race thing.  I really think we might be ready for that.  After all, Obama and Hillary are both historic moments in American politics, and the oppression of women has been going on for a lot longer that the prejudice against Africans, think Egypt and Timbuktu and the trade empire or even Carthage.  I just don't think eople are ready for another liar in the White House.  As the more unsavory things about Obama bagin to come out, I think we are going to see some pretty normal stuff, which is exactly what Obama claims not to be.  I think the American people are just tired of liars.

My concern is that he is in fact going to win the Democratic nonination which would mean that the Democrats haven't a chance of winning in the next election.    Hopefully at the national convention they will vote for the person who actually has a chance of bringing the democrats to the white house and not the person with the most false charisma.

I know.  I just heard him and Bill speak here in Eugene.  Obama is so smooth and so oily, I guess that's the way I feel after hearing him.  Bill, and Hillary for that matter, feel more honest.  I know the term honest and politicia don't work in the same sentence, but I guess I am comfortable with her.  I know what she is and where she stands.  She is a consummate politico, and does not really deny that.  At least that is honest.  I almost feel like hiding under a blanket when I talk to Obama supporters.  They're just such afnatics.
